Hunter Cafe sits quietly in the Taman Perling neighborhood of Johor Bahru, offering a peaceful spot to enjoy vegetarian-friendly dishes with a western twist. This compact cafe is designed around a cozy and casual atmosphere, making it well suited for small groups or solo visitors looking to unwind without rush.

Locals seem to appreciate Hunter Cafe as a laid-back place where dining isn’t hurried—in fact, the quiet, neighborhood vibe invites you to linger over your meal. The menu leans toward familiar comfort foods like pasta, burgers, and udon, but all thoughtfully crafted without garlic or onions, which reflects a mindful approach to vegetarian cooking. Popular choices include a well-executed Carbonara with perfectly al dente spaghetti, and a uniquely addictive vegetarian fried chicken (VFC) that some visitors find hard to forget.

The seating layout and the calm surroundings make this a good afternoon or early evening hangout, especially when parking is still plentiful. Friendly and patient staff add to the relaxed experience, giving it the feel of a local kitchen rather than a bustling commercial café.

Hunter Cafe attracts diners who want plant-based meals without losing the comfort and flavors of western-style dishes. It’s also one of the few places where you can find house-made kombucha alongside your meal, a nod to the growing health-conscious crowd in JB. Portions lean toward moderate sizes, noticeably so for some dishes like the baked mashed potato, which might appeal more to light eaters or those ordering several small plates to share.

Given its quiet setting in Taman Perling, Hunter Cafe feels like a convenient neighborhood spot to catch up with friends, enjoy a casual meal, or treat yourself to something wholesome after a rainy afternoon. It’s not a place for large gatherings or lively weekends, but rather a modest, friendly café for those who prioritize relaxed dining and straightforward vegetarian options.

Had a great time there with my friends! Small and cozy cafe theme. The food was exceptional, highly recommended the Carbonara, the spaghetti was al-dente and the burger (not in photo). Highly recommend the VFC which was very addictive. Total was around RM110 for 3 pax

Healthy Vegetarian food like burgers, pasta, pizza, udon etc. Nice, peaceful and quiet cafe in neighbourhood, can take your time to finish your meal. Plenty of parking at dinner time. The waitress was patient and pleasant. Burger has fresh bun, plenty of fresh vege and tasted good (rm 11), kombucha was fine. Suggest to offer a couple of simple Asian fare with a healthy twist ie more vege/less oil such as rice dishes, nasi lemak, fried noodles. And keep prices competitive and display menu (with prices) outside shop to attract customers.

A new vegetarian cafe in JB. Serving western food. I love the Carbonara Spaghetti and handmade Kombucha. No garlic and onions. Owner is polite and friendly.

went on a saturday afternoon. ordered the Shacha Udon, Cheese Baked Mash Potato and a Hot Chocolate. Shacha udon feels like a comfort food especially if its raining. Seasonings are not too overpowering, it is pretty decent (though personally i would prefer it to be more savoury) Cheese Baked Mashed Potato was a little bit disappointing as the portion is very small but the taste was okay Hot Chocolate seems to be using soy milk (not sure) instead of regular milk

A wonderful vegetarian Western-style cafe with an amazing atmosphere. It’s very quiet and relaxing, perfect for spending a peaceful afternoon. The food is beautifully presented, flavorful, and all vegetarian and alliums free, which I appreciate. I also tried their kombucha for the first time—it was unique and absolutely delicious. Highly recommend this place!
